Getting excited...finally!

As you may or may not know, unemployment requires that you do 2 job searches a week in order to collect unemployment checks. Well, for this week, I did one on Sunday or Monday and another a few days ago, so I was debating applying for another one "in person." I'm glad I talked myself into going to the in person one. It was for a construction company in Broken Arrow and the lady was very impressed by my resumé and it looks hopeful. It seemed like a very nice atmosphere in there, and the lady who I talked to was nice. It's for 40 hrs./wk (7:30am-4:30pm), which is better than the vet tech job, if you recall. I also like that I absolutely know that I can do this job because I'm pretty sure I will be doing the same thing there as I was at my old job except, oh yeah.......for $2 MORE / HR.!!!!!!!!!......STARTING PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I get a "Heck yes!"??? Anyway, I was just throwing in that I'm excited about it and it's pretty much gonna break my heart if I don't get it because how many other girls have backgrounds in the lumber business?!?! I mean, come on!

Okay, calming down now...I have an appointment to go see The Roxy Theatre in Muskogee on Monday to see if it will work as a wedding ceremony venue. If it will work, then I already know of a reception venue to use (Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, also in Muskogee), so I will book those and we can move forward with all of the other wedding details. Speaking of wedding details, before I set "November 7, 2009" in stone, the other contender was "February 7, 2009." THAT IS ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW! I could not be happier that I decided to go with November. I would be losing my mind freaking out right now if I was unemployed, on the job hunt, and one month from my wedding (from the time I got laid off)! I've already been freaking out with wedding things not even being a huge factor.

I guess I haven't really added my most recent thoughts about The Tulsa Little Theatre lately...I really liked it, how quirky it was, but it's just not right. I don't want to have to walk outside to get to the back of the auditorium for my big entrance. I don't want to get dressed in a room that has a glass wall that is shared with the entire auditorium (There's a curtain-esque thing over it, but still...I know my luck!). I don't want to pay nearly $1000 for only ONE of my wedding venues. Oh yeah, and I was reading online that it's haunted. Kinda freaky!!!!

So, that's all of it for now. I will keep all updated!

Quandary

Well, I guess I had an interview today. There was an ad in the newspaper for a vet tech/receptionist position that required you to apply in person. I went there and filled out an application, then the woman stood and talked to me for about 10-20 minutes it seemed like. All of it was interesting. She was saying how it sometimes takes like 2 years to fully train for that position, and that there is lots of "homework" learning about the practice before you can even THINK about answering the phone. All of this was making me go into the "I could so do this" mode I sometimes get into and then she started talking hours.....The job is 30 hrs a week, basically, but it often goes into the "40 hrs" mark because of "overtime." From there I started noting all of the negatives:
  • NOT 40 HOURS/WK
  • Wardrobe: khakis, a white shirt over which you wear matching (to the rest of the staff) button up scrubs, and white nursing shoes....I don't have any of this stuff.........................nor do I want to. Yuck!
  • No possibility of "moving up"/promotions (The next ring up is a veterinary....school, certification, etc.......)
  • What if I don't like it? Then I wasted their time and took up a space that someone else might have saught after.
  • Can I really handle it? One of the stipulations was that if an emergency comes in (like dog hit by car), then you have to be calm, cool, and collected so that the patients don't start freaking out. I just don't know if I can handle that. I've never been in that position, well, as far as medical goes.
  • Lots of homework after hours.
Those are the big ones. I also got an e-mail today saying I should set up an interview with the other vet tech job I applied for. Why are these vet tech ones clamoring for me when that's not even my specialty!?!? It's driving me crazy and making me feel like I'm not good at anything. The "interview" went well other than me mentioning that it worried me that it wasn't 40 hrs/wk. I don't know what I'm going to do if they call me back for a second interview. :( I would feel so much better about myself if someone actually got back to me about a "professional" job...like one that applies to my degree.

Getting better...at least in my head...

Well, I had a very very VERY productive Friday and ever since then, I've been feeling better about life. I have all the unemployment junk sorted out now (At least I'd freakin' BETTER), so all I have to do in unemploymentland is try to get at least 2 jobs a week, then file a weekly claim (which is like 10 yes/no online questions). And I already did my last week's claim already (it only became available at midnight last night) and I have already applied to 4 jobs for this week! Maybe it's sick, but I love how organized I have to be with all of this junk. Anyway, leaving unemploymentland....

...and onto Weddingworld! Jon and I met on site with the owners of the Tulsa Little Theatre. I am more in love with this little place than ever before! It needs help, but it's just something I can get excited about helping. The front lobby is PER-FECT, including a receptionist desk over to the right, where a guest book can sit and then some obligatory pictures of Jon and I.

Jon and I are currently in a battle over dressing rooms, though. There is an official dressing room upstairs behind the stage that is perfectly spacious and "decorated" (there are about 8 dressing mirrors, vanity lights, and a couch in there, to name a few...) for the bridal dressing room, but the downside is that the only way to get to the back of the auditorium from there is, well, a trip outside or a walk through the auditorium. What if it's raining? I don't know. The dressing room also has a very low, low, did-I-mention-low?, ceiling to it...which I'm wondering if all of Jon's men and Jon could handle for an hour.

Moving on to the other possible dressing rooms, though...there is a concession room which actually looks out into the theatre (with curtains to pull, though, don't worry) which is the next roomiest of possible rooms. No seats or mirrors, though. The other room is a sort of conference room, complete with a large glass table in the middle of the room. I asked about moving it and I think it could only be moved to a corner of the room, though, which kinda makes for an awkward dressing room. By the way, these rooms have 10-ft or more high ceilings.

Anyway, other problems to overcome: The auditorium floor is bare concrete that is not stained nor painted...nor all one color. The stage needs a new paint job. The walls have painted over water damage, so they look kinda rough. The sound system is subpar, I'm told (I have no idea...), and the lighting will need to be added to, I am also told, so that no one looks disgusting in pictures. You techically have to go through a side door to get up on the stage, but I kinda like that, so I'm going to call that a positive. :) Oh yes, and then the reception problem....there isn't another wide open space to have guests sit for a reception, so I'm halfway thinking of just having some tables behind the curtain onstage for the party and families to sit, and everyone else just sit back down in their "movie theater" seats and eat the dessert and drink their drink. I don't think I want a full dinner (Sorry, everyone!), nor do I want to add the extra $1000+ on top of the already growing bill.

Positives: The look is PERFECT in my head. Everything from the sea foam green doors you enter, down to the blue and green original seats. I have picture ideas where a camera is looking through one of the holes near the entryway onto Jon and me, making a circle frame around us. There is a huge outdoor balcony (like 20 x 20ft!) (with seafoam green railing, of course!) that has such an empowering feel to it, that would make adorable pictures with the entire party as well. There is a massive projector screen acting as the last curtain on the stage and projector to show a slideshow on. The owners are so nice, they are willing to work with us in every way possible.

Well, I'm starting to get distracted now, by a movie, but there are more positives and I just keep getting a thousand and one new ideas about the place! I go now!

Goin' soooo bad!!!

I'm sure everyone who would possibly read this knows by now, but I got laid off my job today. Probably not that big of a deal, I should be able to bounce back--but if you know me at all, you know that my head began reeling. Losing my job means losing X amount of money. Losing X amount of money means that I may have to borrow some $$$ to pay my bills. Oh, and that whole wedding thing. Wedding = $$$$$$. How can I plan to cost so much money to the people who love me and Jon? I just feel like a failure, you know? I'm going to go back to pre-Jan. 8th days and tell you guys about my happy wedding plans as of recently.

I added more pictures of my wedding ideas on Facebook (and so subsequently here ;^P), so have a looksie at those <HERE>. The new ones include pictures of the swans Mary (Jon's mom) bought me on a whim once, the bridesmaid dresses I'm in love with, and most importantly, of my forerunner of a ceremony site. It's hard to think back to how happy all of this did make me, but I do remember that it did. If I can still afford a real wedding, then I think it will be great and just how I want it.

Anyway, I'm done blogging for today. I'll keep everyone posted on the job hunt and possible move. If you have time, please keep me in mind for these next few days/weeks/months.
